Demon Deacons Drop-Kick #2 Duke 86-73

A pair of freshmen helped the Wake Forest Demon Deacons upend the Duke Blue Devils (ranked #2 in ESPN/USA Today coaches poll) 86-73 in Winston-Salem, NC. Freshman guard Jeff Teague poured in 26 points and freshman forward James Johnson chipped in 24 points and grabbed 16 boards to help Wake Forest take control with 8:22 left in the game, and break open a contest that had been tight and physical. With Duke up 62-61 with just under 9 minutes to play, the pair of fab freshmen took over and helped the Deacons outscore Duke 25-11 the rest of the way.

The loss is only the second of the season for Duke, who are now 22-2 on the season, and a league leading 10-1 in the ACC. The victory improves Wake Forest to 16-8 on the season, but they are only 6-5 in the ACC and face North Carolina next week, making them a more likely bid for the NIT than the NCAA tourney.
