Sampson 'Resigns' From Indiana Basketball With $750K Buyout/Payoff

The other shoe has finally dropped, and basketball coach Kelvin Sampson is officially done at Indiana University. After a recent report from the NCAA accused Sampson of 5 major recruiting violations, among other things, IU conducted their own internal investigation, and agreed to a $750,000 buyout settlement of his contract, which still had 5 years and over $5 million left on it. Under the terms of the deal, Sampson will waive his right to sue the university for futher damages, to help the school avoid any wrongful termination suits, and let both parties put this behind them and focus on moving forward.

Assistant coach Dan Dakich will take over the basketball program for the remainder of this year, as the school and players look to regroup. The Hoosiers are 21-4 and currently ranked #14 in the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll, and recently beat #15 Purdue and #17 Michigan State last week.
