Bibby Headed to Hawks In Trade For Mediocre Players

The Atlanta Hawks have sent 4 mediocre players and a 2008 2nd round draft pick to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for veteran point guard Mike Bibby. The Kings are in full on rebuilding mode, and acquired 2006 1st round pick Shelden Williams, backup point guard Tyronn Lue, backup forward Lorenzen Wright, and point guard Anthony Johnson.

The Hawks are looking to make a serious run at the playoffs in a weak Eastern Conference, and are hoping the veteran presence and outside shooting of Bibby can bolster their young and athletic roster. The Hawks have missed on All Star caliber point guards time and time again in the draft, and hope that this trade will finally provide them with the floor general that they have been missing for so long.

The move is largely a salary dump for the rebuilding Kings, who also acquire a young 1st round caliber prospect in Shelden Williams, another draft pick, and expiring contracts. Look for them to deal Ron Artest before the trading deadline of February 21st as well.
